This image was taken a few days before the second and final round of the French Presidential Election (2017), when there was a palpable feeling of tension in the air. I don't usually like to photograph strangers without permission, but this young couple relaxing in the Spring sunshine on Hardelot seafront, combined with the strong linear shadows cast by the railings, caught my eye. At the moment I focused the lens to take the picture, the girl opened her eyes and looked directly at me.
